BP3/4 Story Bird Takes Flight While Powtoon Pound Your Pocket

Story Bird

I recently reviewed a blog post by Shante Shuler on the emerging technology known as Story Bird.

She did a fascinating job!

See my comments on her site here. Her blog post inspired me to want to check out Story Bird for myself. IT seems to be a great tool that could be useful for our transition to Common Core State Standards (Although, I can not find anyone who can really tell me how to implement CCSS.) How I would use Story Bird It would not be of any use to my students. I teach the 10-12 grade science electives, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Astronomy, and Spatial Information Science. I do like to visit the self-contained Special Education classroom. It will be of great use to have those students create stories to increase their reading capabilities. I also feel it could be successfully integrated into Pre-K through Second grade. It could also provide differentiated instruction for struggling readers of all ages.

Very useful for implementing differentiated instruction

I will also show Story Bird to my second grade daughter this tool. This gives me a good test subject to evaluate the learning curve on this site. I will see if she can work the site on her own with little to no guidance to give me a real idea if this is a useful medium in our elementary schools.

Lucy’s Post on Powtoon!!

I also chose to read Lucy Gonzalez’s review of POWTOON.

Yes!! I figured out how to change the background color on a text box!! It was way too hard!!! You found a secret

I had originally set out to do my review of emergent technology on Powtoon, but I felt the cost was way too expensive. I generally dislike subscription based software. These novelty based presentations loose their impact when you use them over and over. Read my comments and check out Lucy’s page here. Powtoon looks to be a great piece of software, but I feel it does not have the POW to make it worth even the lowest price of $9 a month. For some reason this new generation of software that is competing with PowerPoint and Key note seem to think then are competing with World of Warcraft.
